Nestaway Pram Dinghy Pricelist, January 2010
Prices include UK VAT at 17.5%
(1) Glass fibre hull, wood trim, £1,550
White gelcoat hull with grey internal finish; white gelcoat buoyancy tanks with non-slip tops; low-maintenance oiled Iroko hardwood gunwhales, thwarts and knees; plastic rowlocks; stainless steel bow mooring eye. Approx weight 46kg.
(2) All-glassfibre hull, £1,250
Specification as above, without wood trim, so the gunwhales are glassed over to a flange, finished with white or black fendering, and the centre thwarts are white moulded glassfibre with non-slip top. Approx weight 50kg (see note below).
Options for either of the above (including fitting/labour as applicable):
- Lightweight hull. High-tech construction in carbon fibre and Kevlar (for stiffness and impact/
abrasion resistance), laid up in epoxy over a high density foam core, saving about 15kg overall.
The hull itself becomes slightly buoyant - effectively unsinkable even if you hole the buoyancy
tanks - and the reduced weight makes a lot of difference when handling on/off the deck of a
yacht etc. £890 (extra)
|
- Sprit Sailing Rig including plywood daggerboard/rudder, moulded daggerboard case, moulded mast support, varnished pine spars (mast and sprit), sail made by Kemp, £950 |
- Longitudinal Seat. This slots in between the centre thwart and aft buoyancy tank,
facilitating balance of different loads, particularly useful when motoring singlehanded.
Retrofittable. £95
- Two Longitudinal Seats. These are supplied with three mounting positions so that you
can use one only in the middle, or one each to port and starboard as side benches for sailing or
motoring. (This is a matter of choice, some prefer to sit on the floor.) Retrofittable. £185
- Coloured hull and/or buoyancy tanks, £55
- Teak woodwork in lieu of Iroko, on version 1. There is nothing wrong with Iroko, but it
does need oiling to avoid cracks/splits over time (particularly in hot climates). Teak can be
oiled, or simply left to its own devices, weathering to a silver-grey colour. Teak is also slightly
harder and ultimately more durable. £260
- Fendering around gunwhales. Choice of materials, from £150
- Keel Wear Strip. Brass or Teak. This involves filling the keel moulding with wood and
glassing over the top, so that we have something to screw the wearstrip into. The teak one
won't last as long, but is replaceable and less likely to damage your deck if being used as a
yacht tender. Brass £120 or Teak £110
- Bilge keels/tiedown handles fitted to aft section. Usually specified by customers
wishing to store their dinghy upside down on deck, but also useful on a slipway etc as they
keep the boat upright. They are standard teak handles and reasonably easy to replace, but
not to fit the first time. £80
- Chromed Rowlocks. Fitted as an upgrade from plastic, look nicer, more durable. £18
- Heavy Duty Rowlocks. Very substantial, British-made to a traditional design. They
also have a special end that makes it very easy to tie into the boat. £55
- Buoyancy Bag to fit under main thwart (approx 45kg, recommended for sailing).
Includes straps and fittings. £55.
- Foam-filled Buoyancy Tanks. Bow and stern tanks filled with two-part polyurethane
expanding foam, makes boat completely unsinkable, even if you leave the hatches off or if
they leak and (unlike polystyrene) adds strength. Access hatches are fitted over moulded
recesses approx 4" deep, still OK for phone, wallet, keys etc. Adds about 2kg overall. £70
- Transom Wheels. Pair of stainless steel fold-up and removable 6" diameter wheels with
inflatable tyres, for easy movement on slipways, jetties etc. Outboard can remain on transom,
between fittings. Note - these are not the useless 2" castor wheels some builders fit! £130
- Bow Handle. Tubular stainless steel handle, complements transom wheels. £35
- Additional mooring/lifting eyes. We can custom fit eyes to suit a specific mooring
or davit width etc (some customers keep their Pram Dinghy assembled on davits for short
passages and on deck for longer voyages) price depends on type/location.
- Heavy duty version. Additional laminate and glassed-over keel, adds 7kg. £110
- Non-slip floor. Thicker internal flowcoat with textured non-slip finish, adds 3kg. £75
We have also incorporated many other customer requests in our boats - please ask if not listed above.
OARS
We do not include oars, as we find many customers have their own already, and those who don't want different things. For the pram dinghy we recommend approx 6ft 6" oars if the main rower is less than 5ft 6" tall, and 7ft oars if they are taller. If you have mixed height rowers then probably go for the shorter version. Experienced rowers or tall, strong men might even go to 7ft 6". We can supply any of the following:
- Plastic bladed oars with aluminium shafts, 2m (6ft 9") long. These are OK for occasional use, ie as backup to a motor, but not recommended if you intend to row frequently. It's not a strength issue, they just don't feel (or look) as nice as wooden ones. £24 a pair.
- Varnished pine flat blade oars. These look great, are nice to use, "feel right", and good value. Made in Finland. £60/pair for 6ft 6", £62/pair for 7ft.
- Varnished pine sectional oars, 7ft (2.1m) long. These have a smaller diameter shaft, with a plastic joining mechanism in the middle. Not quite as nice to use as the non-sectional oars, but easier to stow. £78 a pair. If you choose this type we need to supply different rowlocks to cater for the smaller shaft (no cost option).
- Hand-crafted spoon blade oars. If rowing is your primary/exclusive means of propulsion, spoon blades are slightly more efficient but much harder to make. £POA, anything up to £200 each (still cheaper than an outboard though!).
Note on Weight. At approx 50kg the weight of version 2 (all-glassfibre) is slightly more than the glassfibre hull with wood trim, as the gunwhales need to have extra reinforcing in them (the wood when fitted is structural) and the rubber fendering on its own adds 4kg. Click here for more pictures: All-glassfibre Pram Dinghy. However if weight is an important consideration at extra cost we can build a carbon/Kevlar version, see "Lightweight Hull" option above. An all-glass lightweight Pram is then lighter than a lightweight one with wood trim, as the materials are inherently stiffer (ie do not require so much additional reinforcing).
Please contact us by phone or email if you wish to discuss the specification of your boat and/or the options required are not listed above. We can also supply the Pram Dinghy to any stage of completion, for you to add woodwork etc in your own time.
Delivery is dependent on distance from our workshop (near Christchurch, Dorset), either by courier or of preference in our own van. If we're doing it we charge a £25 flat fee plus 40p per mile (each way) with the main advantages being that we can offer a reasonable indication of timing and you get a "handover" from someone who knows the boats. Courier deliveries start at about £150 (including packing etc), up to £2500 for more remote UK destinations or or £300 if a sailing rig is ordered. We do offer overseas delivery but this will be quoted on an individual basis.
You can also pick up your new boat yourself, by arrangement.
There is a third option, which we don't sell very often but does look rather beautiful:
(3) Pram Dinghy with cold-moulded double-diagonal mahogany hull.
These all-wood boats are custom made to order, most often with a glass-sheathed and painted exterior, and varnished interior. They are very labour-intensive, and cost depends on the internal fit-out and finish you request, but as an indication the price for a hull starts at £4,500
(Errors and Ommissions excluded)
