| These mirror-polished folding (also known as "pop-up") stainless steel cleats slide up and down in sockets, so that they sit flush with the deck when not in use. They look rather smart, raising up above deck height for mooring etc. |
|
On our boats they are also useful when the sections are nested inside each other, as they don't increase the total nested height. They also reduce the chance of snagging on upholstery and other obstacles as you put the sections in/out of your car. |
|
Another advantage is that sheets, halyards etc won't get caught on them when you're going for a sail. We offer them as an option, fitted to slightly enlarged knees (the bits of wood that brace the corners at the bow and stern). |
On our (ie Nestaway) boats we usually fit the smallest size of folding cleat, which is 5" (120mm) long and perfectly adequate for most boats up to about 16 feet*. These
are priced at £35 each including making the larger knee they attach to, and fitting.
They really need to be fitted from new if you want them incorporated into the knees.
This type of cleat is not always easy to find and often rather over-priced, so as with
our folding rowlocks we also make folding cleats available to those who wish to fit
them to their own craft, priced as follows:
~ 5" (120mm) Mirror-polished stainless steel folding cleats £27 each
~ 6" (160mm) Mirror-polished stainless steel folding cleats £34 each
~ 8" (210mm) Mirror-polished stainless steel folding cleats £46 each
(These prices do not include fitting etc, as when supplied with our boats,
but do include substantial bolts, lock nuts, backing plates etc.)
Folding Cleats are practical and look good - a great gift for the boat owner who's got everything (else). Little design touches like this really get a boat noticed and we can't
think of many people who wouldn't like them, even if they wouldn't buy them...

* We would recommend something stronger for boats that are left permanently afloat
on a mooring.
