We originally developed our boats for the yacht tender market, but have since had several orders from customers seeking a "Camper Van Tender". With that in mind we were delighted to find the Thule EasyBase, a multi-purpose rack that mounts, very simply, on a standard towbar. It is rated for loads up to 75kg, and will take our Pram or Stem dinghies. It is shown here with an 8ft Pram Dinghy, mounted on the back of a Volkswagen Transporter.
We make an adapter that attaches to the EasyBase, so that the stern section of the boat can be securely bolted on (using the standard joining bolts and holes in the joining bulkhead). The bow section is then nested into the stern, and held there using stainless steel ratchets/ webbing straps. As the standard EasyBase comes complete with towbar mount and electrics, all you need to add is a numberplate.

Here is a 7ft 10" Stem Dinghy on the back of a Nissan X-Trail. It protrudes slightly above the roofline, but has far less effect on aerodynamics than a single piece boat on a roofrack. And because it is in two pieces, only a foot or so above ground level, it is much easier to load than a roofrack -easy for one person. No need to worry about towing, reversing or parking a trailer! |
Total price including the EasyBase, our custom adapter, the stainless steel
ratchet straps and small modifications to the boat to secure the straps in
place is £300.
