Our 8ft 2" Pram Dinghy is available with the option of lightweight construction, consisting of a carbon/Kevlar mix outer skin, high density foam core, and carbon internal skin. In this form she can weigh as little as 32kg (approx 70-lb), and is, thanks to the Kevlar, virtually bullet proof! So far as we know we are the only production builder in the world of such a high-tech Pram Dinghy, even before we take into account the fact that she can be split in two for easier transport and storage. In the picture right, she is shown being retrieved onto the deck of a Bavaria 36, in regular use as a "liveaboard" yacht tender.

We could actually build even lighter if you wished us to, by leaving out the
gelcoat (the thick outer layer of coloured resin) which is approx 7-8 of the
32kg mentioned above. The alternative would then be a two-pack sprayed
paint finish, which is actually tougher than gelcoat, but much thinner - in
other words harder to scratch, but easier to scratch through (but also
easier to patch up, for the average yachtie). So there is the potential to
make an 8ft nesting Pram Dinghy in composite materials at 25kg...

... or, as not everyone who might be interested in such a boat needs it to
be sectional, about 22kg as a single-piece Pram Dinghy.

And yes, that is lighter than any good quality inflatable dinghy of equivalent
size (air-filled rubber is actually quite heavy)!
